Golfers from around the world have brought a touch of Brazil to North Ayrshire at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. Sixteen Rio Olympians are competing in the tournament at Dundonald Links this weekend.

Team GB golfer Catriona Matthew – who finished round one at Dundonald Links one under par – says, “It’s been a goal of mine all year to try and make the Olympics, so to be in is fantastic.

“I think I’ve got a good chance; I’ve been playing well this year and I’ve had some good finishes. All the top women are going so it’s going to be tough competition, but if you can get your putter hot you never know.”

Nanna Koerstz Madsen, who will represent Denmark in Rio, adds, “It feels really special to wear the Danish flag as it’s so rare that we have the chance to represent our country and promote our sport to a global audience of billions. It’s amazing to think that I will be an Olympic athlete, in the same position as those I really admire and used to watch when I was growing up.”
