COWAN CONSOLIDATES

August 14, 2020

Germany’s Olivia Cowan continued to show why she is one of the brightest prospects on the Ladies European Tour by backing up her solid opening round of 68 (-3) with a level-par effort of 71 this morning, to sit firmly inside the top-5 heading in to the weekend at Renaissance Golf Club.

Cowan, who has recorded as many as 18 top-ten finishes in 58 starts, is still in search of her maiden LET title and is only two-strokes off the clubhouse lead, currently set by American major winner, Stacy Lewis.

The 24-year-old has managed to keep her game sharp during lockdown, thanks in part to the German national team, who put on a series of mixed three-day events for professionals and elite amateurs – with Cowan collecting the silverware at the most recent event last month.

Commenting on the day, she said, “I definitely played better yesterday, I was struggling a bit but managed to keep it together. I am putting really well which saved me a lot, especially when I got myself in a few tricky situations.”

In response to pre-tournament nerves, Cowan was steadfast in her response due in part to a recent addition to her team, David Sammel.

“I felt comfortable out there because in the months we’ve been away I started working with a new psychologist called David. He has helped me get back in and get excited to be in pressure situations. I used to love being in the pressure situations but being so close to getting a win, and missing out, I began to put too much pressure on myself and I started to not enjoy being in the mix.”

“Originally he comes from Tennis and my Uncle worked with him when he was playing professionally so recommended him to me and he reached out. He doesn’t work with any other golfers but I am pleased to have him on my team.”
